Tino walked into the room, feeling rather cheerful. Someone had left a pen in reach on the nurse's desk, and he'd managed to snag it without anyone noticing. He didn't understand why he wasn't allowed to have them. Wasn't like they were all that sharp.
Lukas was still sleeping; snoring lightly with his mouth half-open, and looking innocent as a child... not that children were innocent, really. Tino hadn't been. He grimaced. But it was nice to see Lukas soft, lacking his usual indifferent expression.
Tino took his new treasure to the table, and extracted a sheet of paper from his sketchbook. He tapped his lip with the pen thoughtfully. Lukas liked... the sea, right? He started drawing, a simple sailboat, crashing waves... ok, they were kind of curly-looking rather than crashing. He clucked at the drawing, not really satisfied. It needed something... right there. He drew a tern following the boat, then carefully folded the paper in half with the drawing on the inside. On the other side, he wrote, "Happy Birthday Lukas!!!" with a little heart underneath, and stood the card up on the table next to Lukas's bed.

Lukas sensed movement, and slowly awoke from his light sleep with a groan. He looked over at the table, then to Tino, then back to the table.
"For me?"
He grabbed the card, trying not to look eager, and opens it. Inside, he sees what looks like water, amongst other things. He read 'Happy Birthday Lukas!!!", and smiled to himself, but only a little.
He looked at Tino. "Thank you." was all he said, hopefully that would suffice.

"You're welcome." Lukas didn't look very excited about it. Not that he ever looked excited about anything, so Tino supposed he shouldn't take it personally.
He sat on the edge of his bed, swinging his legs like a child. Why were hospital beds always so high?

Lukas put the card on his own bed, and looked around for his journal. Once he found it, he put the card at the front of the journal. He re-hid the journal, then layed down on his bed. He sat without saying anything, but strangely, he grew uncomfortable of the silence.
Hopefully Tino will say something.

Tino was not really in the mood for sitting in quiet, companionable silence. He was bored.
He watched Lukas for a couple of minutes, then pulled out his bag and looked through it, and sighed. He looked back at Lukas. "What are you doing today? I'm thinking about going out. Wanna come?"

Lukas thought about it for a moment. He had nothing important to do, but he didnt want to get stuck doing anything boring. "it depends, what are we going to do?"

"I need to get... some stuff." He cocked his head at Lukas, having second thoughts about inviting him along. What if he told? ...Well, they knew each other, and he'd never thought the other untrustworthy, so, "there's a place in the fence where two of the bars have rusted almost all the way through. I think both of us together might be able to break them."
Maybe he needed to be a little more persuasive... "We could, um, visit a few people while we're out. If you want."

Lukas thought for a moment. He couldn't stand this place, but the chance of getting in trouble was undesirable. Geez, it feels like they're highschool kids, trying to skip school or something. Then there was another issue, what if Maddie needed to talk to him again? He seemed to be one of the only people she could talk to about important matters...
Eventually, Lukas decided. To hell with this hospital. All the stress this place puts on him can't be healthy.
"I'm in."

"All right." Tino dumped out his bag on the bed, and wadded it up as compactly as he could before shoving it in his pocket. He stood and offered Lukas his hand. "Let's go!"
((now what? Do we meet on the grounds or outside?))
